About Urbanac

Alan Cadogan is an urban design strategist, planner and expert adviser with more than 30 years’ experience helping shape Sydney’s urban environment. A former Strategy Director at the City of Sydney, Alan specialises in solving complex planning and urban design challenges, helping clients navigate projects that sit outside standard models or require a strategic approach to achieve successful outcomes.

Alan established Urbanac in 2011 to provide urban design, strategic planning and expert advisory services across the public and private sectors. His work combines sound planning policy, urban design expertise and practical negotiation to deliver clear, well-considered outcomes for clients.

Before founding Urbanac, Alan led the award-winning Sustainable Sydney 2030 strategy and managed the City of Sydney’s Environmental, Economic Development, Transport and Strategy units. Earlier roles included the NSW Department of Planning, Lend Lease, DEGW Architects and the Sydney Cove Authority. Alan also served as Deputy Chair of the Bayside Council Design Review Panel.

Our Approach

Every project has its pressure points. Urbanac works closely with clients and project teams to understand the context, identify the issues that really matter, and focus effort where it will make the greatest difference.

Grounded in a deep understanding of place, our approach looks beyond the site boundaries to find opportunities, build on existing strengths and develop practical strategies that unlock better urban outcomes.
